The Top Homework Organization Tips

One of the ways to excel in school is to make sure you do your homework when assigned, and really give it your all. Of course this is much easier said than done, especially when you’re juggling multiple classes with various assignments. Not to worry as we’ve put together the top homework organization tips that you can use that will help you get on track and stay on top of all your assignments.

Tip 1 – Create a Homework Journal

We’ve all done it before, you hear the assignment as it’s being told to you, you jot it down or maybe you just tell yourself you’ll remember only to lose that piece of paper or forget the assignment all together. A homework journal is a fabulous way to stay organized and takes little time to create. Pick up a standard journal or notebook and start writing in it on a daily basis. You can write down the assignment for each class including due dates. You can then mark off the assignments as you complete them.

Tip 2 – Create a Homework Calendar

For those people who prefer working with a calendar, a homework calendar makes more sense. It’s the same idea as a journal in that you are writing down the assignments as they are given out, but instead you jot down the due date on your calendar so you can quickly look ahead and see what’s coming up.

Tip 3 – Collect What you Need

Before you start your homework assignment always be sure you’ve got what you need. This could be resource books, notes, supplies/tools, research data, etc. If you’ve got everything laid out in front of you it will make the assignment run much more smoothly and usually quicker. A good rule of thumb is to go over what supplies you need before you leave school that day, just so that you don’t accidentally forget an item you’ll need later on.

Tip 4 – Reward Yourself With Breaks

While this doesn’t seem like a tip that will keep you organized it actually will in that it will keep your mind fresh and focused. Be sure to take small breaks on a regular basis so that you don’t feel overwhelmed by the homework. If you feel you’re starting to lose focus, yawning, or perhaps your mind is wandering, this is a great time for a break. You can grab a light snack, hydrate yourself with a glass of water, and even do a little light stretching.
